Taking the Fall
The girl was one of the most innocent in the world. She had no flaws. To the human world she was perfect. Her golden hair fell to her waist and her eyes were the brightest blue. Her mother watched her go higher and higher on the swings from the bench. She knew she would one day need to let go. She feared the day she had to leave her sister alone. The world they lived in was dangerous. It was better if she left the child here while her life went on. People were watching them. People that were not visible to the naked eye. She could feel their attention. Today she had to let go. She went to her sister on the swings and her jelly sneakers planted in the sand. The young girl looked at Lisa with questioning eyes. “It’s time for me to go,” Lisa said to her sister. “I know you don’t understand now but you will. In a few short years you will understand all of this. And when you do understand you will meet challenges no other child will ever face. When you face those challenges you must be brave. When you understand you will run and save yourself because I saved you. Every day I will be watching over you. I want you to remember that mother and father did something and I am paying the price for them. I want you to remember that I will be watching you grow into the amazing you h lady you are meant to be. I won’t be right next to you but I’m going to be there. Do you understand?” The girl nodded her head and Lisa kissed the top of her head. Her sister was so innocent and clueless. She had known for so long today would come. She had been preparing herself for what she would face. She knew the horrors that were ahead of her. She stood up and left the girl on the swings. She walked away and into the forest. There waiting was exactly who she expected. He had been waiting for this. She could tell by the smirk on his face. “Finally decided to let go?” He asked her. Lisa didn’t say anything as she kept her gaze on him steady. She wasn’t going to let his looks fool her. He was a snake coiled up and encircling her. He reached out for her and took her arm and she tensed at his cold touch. And they walked into darkness. She didn’t know what he was going to do to her. She didn’t know what he would make her watch. She only knew this was better than her sister having to take the fall because no one else would.
