If Not Now, When?
I’m at the park, grandpa pushing me on the swing
Just a kid, running circles around him, every lap adds to the rings
Grandpa stands still as a tree, smiling, watching
I take it for granted, no concept of this moment that is so brief and fleeting
I’m growing older, climbing higher
He was there on my journey, helped me put out the fires I played with, no surprise there
Giving me advice, he saw himself through me,
Knowledge was his superpower, thriving through history
Didn’t cry when he died, melanoma
I was 16, selfish, kept all my emotions held in, till it finally burst, micronova
His light shines through me, I live by his mantras:
Never say never, be kind, don’t swear,
Most importantly, it’s your life, take chances,
If not now, when?
