POEM STARTER
Fire and Flames
Write a poem where fire is the central theme, whether this be physical or a metaphorical burning.
Too Hot
Heed my warning: those who tempt the flames get burnt
Those who attempt to outshine the sun will soon learn their worth
Those who fly too high will often meet the earth
For a wingless bird is no more than nutrients for humble worms
You, my Icarus, my gift, I took you under my wing
But the time has come, where you must soar and sing
We shall be free to discover all sorts of things
Free to discover the punishment arrogance brings
The sky is the limit, but access is limited
Whilst possibilities are infinite, few are different
Everything burns, wings of wax are no exception
Keeping that in mind is my firmest suggestion
Your passion may burn bright, but brightness burns passion
It is far more cruel than the warmth of compassion
It burns much hotter than you’d like to imagine
Come on, let us take refuge in the sky
Embrace the heat of the moment, for it is nigh
You were always the fool who did things I wouldn’t dare try
But this time, Icarus—you fool—you flew too high
