Stranger

The reality check when realizing the biggest stranger in her life was her own self wasn’t heavy enough for change.

Alex always performed best under pressure, but there was no sense of urgency in getting to know herself.

She preferred to be alien in her own body, to not intertwine with her DNA.

Detachment made the days slip by easier and ease was all she craved.

Sure, life marched along without her.

Her friends betrothed and babied.

Her parents, long gone.

But Alex remained resolute on remaining aloof to her own mortality.

Cool, calm, collected and careful not to clutter her mind with questions she didn’t desire to answer.

March on.
