COMPETITION PROMPT

Write a poem about a form of energy.

You may interpret ‘energy’ however you want, whether scientifically, magically, or metaphorically.

at the bottom of the crater

{so this prompt made me think of how love has the energy of two exploding stars / meteors and and the aftermath in the crater of this energy ) we were an explosion, imploding stars erosion of any former emotional scars fuelled by emotion like an unfrozen ocean set free and in our devotion something was awoken and we could see the ground falling from under our feet it swallowed us hole we followed and rolled down steep drops, magnificent and dangerous to behold as they threatened to crumble a deep fall that beckoned us to tumble we hit the bottom and stumbled to hold to reach eachother but we were uncontrolled it was our perfect mould till it pushed us apart two souls lost in the crater in our hearts at first it was only beautiful like we were doing the undoable fiery mountains collapsed in sunsets above us i thought feeling out of your depth was just what love does a chasm carved into the earth of infinite worth just us and our freedom this place was our eden but the depth of a crater can only be seen from above we had leapt to the centre and ran out of love and when there was nothing left to explore we started lusting for what came before we were cold at night and bored in the day scared of a fight we pushed eachother away not wanting to stay but too nervous to say we’d gone from watching the stars to watching love fade until one day it felt impossible to escape our energy was gone and we were left in its wake asking was this a mistake
