Mindless

It would be too difficult to explain what Vale is doing to an outsider. Like trying to explain flying to a worm. Nic filled a pot with water, and carried it over to the stove. After turning the burner to high, he leaned on the counter.

There had to be a way to spread the word around, but hell if he knew how. He watched as little bubbles formed on the bottom of the pot. It would have to be a subtle tell; let people in on it slowly overtime. He just wished he knew how much time he had before it was too late.

Thin wisps of steam drifted up lazily from the water. Another problem… he didn’t have much influence outside of the pack. Sure, he knew some witches and a couple fairies. It wasn’t anyone of note though. His flower vendor wouldn’t be out there leading the charge of fairies.

He let his mind wander further as he watched bubbles gather speed on their journey to break free. Ellie had found a witch to help her. Nic didn’t know if this witch, Vanessa Parker, had the juice to get anything done. He’d just have to keep an eye on them, see what direction they go. Ellie still didn’t know what she was mixed up in. Before her mom died, she’d made it clear Ellie was to be kept out of it.

The steam carried more urgency now as the bubbles popped more frequently. Vanessa was stubborn, loud, and aggressive. It was admirable, but didn’t necessarily translate to useful. If she could get on the right path, he’d have no choice but to bring her into the fold; meaning Ellie would be smack in the middle of it all too. Vanessa was cute too. That was neither here nor there.

The water had become tumultuous, and the steam was racing to the ceiling. The water was ready. He grabbed a box of noodles and upended it into the pot. He wished all his problems were as easy to solve as dinner.
