Not Your Boyfriend
"There's something I need to tell you," the Doctor's voice hitched. "I'm not your boyfriend."
"I never thought you were." Clara whispered. Her eyes were locked on the Doctor.
"I never said it was your mistake."
The Doctor turned on his heel and snapped his fingers. The TARDIS doors flew open.
"You want me to leave?"
"I want to be alone." The Doctor stood very tall and very still, like a statue.
Clara furrowed her brow. "You never want that."
"Clara,"
"No," Clara interrupted. "I've traveled with you long enough to know rule number one is the Doctor lies. Why are you lying to me?"
The Doctor leaned on the TARDIS console and sighed. Getting rid of Clara Oswald was still as difficult now as the day they'd first met.
"There are things I cannot explain, Clara. Surely, you can understand that. Can't you?"
With narrowed eyes, Clara twirled around to face the TARDIS doors, lost in thought.
"What you said a moment ago about you not being my boyfriend," Clara spoke the last word like it was a curse. "I think it may have been more than just your mistake."
And with that, Clara left the Doctor alone in his TARDIS.
