A Gift To Remember

Upon my twenty-third birthday, I have not gotten any gift, other than a card filled with money.

Now I can say that I’ve gotten an…old pair of glasses? No note, no money, only a note saying my name. Hana Strider.

I was surprised by the odd yet useless gift, I never wore glasses except for one time.

Which made me wonder, who could’ve sent these? No one knows what happened all those years ago except me and only me.

I put the glasses on, it tinted my vision to a orangish color, god I remember how ugly these were! Even more so, I remember how useful they became.

I looked around and saw a trail of glowing handprints leading me away from my favorite library, past my favorite store, through my favorite park, to my street, and right in front of my house.

It was like a game of cat and mouse. But whose really the cat?.

I entered the house to find it empty and full of my pictures. The picture where I won the spelling bee, the talent show, I smiled at the thought of winning. At being on top.

I looked up at the fireplace only to find the following words; I’M COMING FOR YOU

“I’m not a fake, I’m not sure if you noticed but we co-exist in this world.” I stated, knowing that my generous gift-giver was there. I began walking downstairs to the basement .

“You may not know it but we needed lives, we earned these lives, you just can’t accept that can you?. Maybe try better next time.”

I took my glasses off as soon as I heard a creak coming from the staircase, which I paid zero attention to since I know I won. I ALWAYS win.

I reached the last step and hummed my way over to the tools and picked up a hammer, “You know I’ve done this before right? I mean…I did steal your life after all, Hana.” I looked at the old mirror that was illuminating the sun’s shine which showed her full reflection.

As she was about to grab me, I smashed the hammer onto the glasses, which made her disappear for good.

I did feel a little bad for my doppelgänger but this whole situation was quite hilarious .

I mean did you really think you had me? I pulled the same glasses trick for your birthday. Only I was successful, I really meant what I said.

I always win.

Goodbye Hana Strider.

And say hello to the new one.
