The Monster’s Refrain
In the shadows deep, where no one sees,
The monster whispers beneath the trees.
Claws so sharp, scales so gray,
“It’s fine, I never belonged here anyway.”
It watches children laugh and run,
Bathes in the warmth of the distant sun.
Yet when it step, they shy away,
“It’s fine, I never belonged here anyway.”
Its voice once sang, its hate once little,
But time has withered the heart so brittle.
Each dream it chased led astray,
“It’s fine, I never belonged here anyway.”
Beneath the moon, it carved its place,
A lonely hollow, a void of grace.
It’s heart beats slow, its mind will say,
“It’s fine, I never belonged here anyway.”
Perhaps the monster isn’t a beast,
But a young, carefree spirit at least,
Still, no one will come, no one will stay,
“It’s fine, I never belonged anyway.”
