Five Years Ago

“Hey,” I shout, turning around.

I bend down to pick up the bags that were knocked out of my hands.

I gather them up, pushing my hair out of my face as I stand up.

“No,” I whisper.

A boy walks past me, no not a boy. It’s Kol.

His eyes grow wide as he catches my eye.

We stare at each other, time slowing down.

Kol shakes his head, looking away. I keep my eyes on him. How? He’s here.

I drop my bags, he’s here.

I watch as she turns the corner, vanishing into the darkness.

“You died,” I whisper, staring at the dark shadow he had walked into, “Five years ago.”
