The Grand Library
Evelyn loved her mother. A saint of service, she graciously donated her time dropping off meals to those in the lower east side that did not have transportation to get the store on a regular basis. Enjoying the outings, Evelyn was eager for today’s stop to the house of an elderly widow, the wife to the late Professor Blake.
Walking to the door, through the foyer and into the kitchen, Evelyn marveled at the astonishing library that was to her right off the main hall. Lined with books which appeared vintage and leather bound, she was ready to let herself be engulfed by the knowledge and literature that awaited her without invitation.
Wandering as the two women talked, she quietly entered the room, feeling the presence of late nights spent reading and studying over the millions of pages before her alongside the now quiet fireplace in the corner. The late Ms. Blake entered the room and smiled, as she did when her husband turned to notice her each night before beckoning him off to the night’s slumber.
