Half-Unwelcome
I ducked out of the way when a icy dart whizzed past me.
“Sorry!” I heard a little girl shout. She had short, curly brown hair and pretty blue eyes.
“Are you all right?” she asked, coming up to me.
“I’m fine,” I replied.
She tilted her head. “Why didn’t you block it though?”
I started sweating. This is what I was trying to avoid.
“I can’t.”
“What do you mean you can’t?”
“Exactly what I said.”
Her eyes lit up with recognition. Then horror.
“You’re the half-elf.”
I nodded, grimacing.
“Why are you even here?” she said, disgust lacing her voice. “You can’t do magic and you’re half-human,” she spat the last word.
“I-“
“Ugh,” she scoffed and walked away.
I blinked away the tears forming in my eyes. I knew I wouldn’t be welcome.
I didn’t know why it hurt this much.
