Dahlia And The Flower Fairies

Dahlia lives in a pretty cottage, with grandma and grandad. They love her very much. Grandad loves planting colourful flowers and grandma knits lots and lots. Dahlia likes to play in the garden, she loves the flowers and her knitted cardigan.

One day, Dahlia was playing with the flowers, when she noticed two with special powers. “How are you smiling? You’re not real!” Dahlia squealed. “We’re Floraand Fay, would you like to play?” “Yes I would, but you can’t run around!” Dahlia replied. “That’s true we’re stuck in the ground!” Said Flora. Excitedly, Fay shouted “Where is the hedgehog, he’ll know what to do.Maybe we can grow as tall as you!” Suddenly, the magic hedgehog appeared. “Wow he’s here” the flower girls cheered. “I heard you needed some of magic? Having no fun would be so tragic!” The magic hedgehog bellowed. The flower girls pleaded with the magic hedgehog to se his owners and help them grow. I know just the thing! Listen to my flow” hedgehog began casting a spell. “Babble, wobble, gooboody, goo! Let me put my spell on you!” As the sun began shining, Dahlia saw the girls flying. She jumped with joy and everyone cheered, the hedgehogs work was done, so he disappeared.

Dahlia dashed through the sunlit garden as her beautiful fairy friends soared above her. Floras wings glowing in pink iridescence as she stumbles through the sky, adjusting to her new skill of flying. Fay has the most beautiful purple, sparkling wings Dahlia had ever seen. The flower fairies embrace each other as the spin and soar faster than they had ever imagined. Slowly and majestically they float back down to the garden, Dahlia watches in awe as the girls join her on the grass. Flora giggled, brushing a petal from her hair. “This is incredible!” “Do you think the spell will last forever? ” Fay asked, her voice tinged with wonder. “I really hope so! I want to play with you forever!” Replied Dahlia.

Hours and hours passed by as the three girls enjoyed each others company in the beautiful garden. Dahlia taught them how to make daisy chains, how to play tag and sharing her favourite things about school and her family. As the sun began setting, Dahlia could sense their time was almost up and a sadness grew inside her. Flora and Fay showing off their wings and planning a flight up to the tallest trees made Dahlia feel unsettled. She couldn't shake the feeling that their fun might soon come to an end.

Suddenly, the magic hedgehog emerged from the bottom of the garden. Dahlia feels so upset, her stomach turns with dread. She looks up at Flora and Fay gliding through the trees displaying their gorgeous wings. “Please, magic hedgehog, make me a fairy like them!” Dahlia pleaded. “I don’t want to be a human anymore, it’s not fair!” Hedgehog looked at her with dispear. “Dahlia, you need to accept yourself for who you really are. You are so lucky to be a human, you get to go to school, have your family around and play all day!” The hedgehog paused, eyes gentle but firm. Dahlia stares deeply at the hedgehog, with tears welling up in her eyes. Flora and Fay look down and noticee the hedgehog is comforting Dahlia, so they rush back down to investigate. “Dahlia! Dahlia! What’s wrong?” The fairies exclaim in concern. “ I just want to be a fairy like you. It’s not fair. I want to fly and have beautiful wings.” Dahlia cried. Flora fluttered closer, resting a gentle hand on Dahlia’s shoulder. The hedgehog, sternly but warmly, addresses the flower fairies. They need to go with him to *fairy land*, they can’t live in the garden anymore. “I promise, we will visit you every single day Dahlia” Fay reassured her. “We will come back and play, you’re our best friend now!” The three girls embrace each other lovingly. “Thank you for being my friends” Dahlia whispered. “Thank you for giving us our freedom” Fay responded. Dahlia sat on the grass, tears in her eyes as she watched her new best friends and the

magic hedgehog fade off into the distance.

That night, Dahlia resisted telling her grandparents all about her amazing day with her new perfect best friends. Grandma offers to read her a bed tie story, she chooses her favourite fairy book and drifts off to sleep. Dreaming of her new best friends and the adventures they might have together. The next morning, Dahlia awakes at the crack of dawn, rushing downstairs and out to the garden, ignoring her grandads calls. She sits right in the spot where her and her flower fairies first met. Watching the sky and waiting patiently. Suddenly, she spots two glimmers of light floating down from the sky. “My best friends! They showed up!” Dahlia screams.
