STORY STARTER

Write a story where a misunderstanding leads to bad consequences.

It could be a small part of your story, or the whole plot could depend on it.

The Wreck

Elisa was with her best friend Anna, and they decided to go to the fair together. “Hopefully it doesn’t rain, I heard the weather could get bad,” Elisa assured Anna. “True, but I heard Luke will be there, my boyfriend, so why not risk it?” They both grinned.

They eventually made it there, thousands of little kids, a toddler on a man’s shoulders, licking a lollipop very loudly. A boy chasing another boy around the grass. A young teenage girl to another teenage girl. There were lots of ferris wheels and fun rides to explore, and lots of smiles and laughter.

“Oh, there is he is!” Anna ran to him and hugged him. “Well, hello there!” He smiled brightly and she kissed him on the cheek quickly. Elisa was happy for them, but sometimes she wished she had someone to lean on romantically. It started sprinkling rain, and they all ran under the roof of a circus. “Told you Anna,” Elisa added. Anna immediately started speaking quietly to her boyfriend, and Elisa was instantly upset. Elisa didn’t like when someone wouldn’t just communicate, and Elisa ran away. She couldn’t deal with this.

She took Anna’s car and started driving in the rain, the rain eventually came down harder, and she could barely see the road ahead of her. Anna had said something, and she didn’t hear it. She thought it could’ve been because she was talking about her. She kept thinking about, starting to lose her mind. Elisa didn’t bring her inhaler, and her breathing was starting to weaken. She ran into a vehicle and everything turned black.

Next thing she knew, she was in a hospital bed, injured and all. Her chest was bruised up badly, and her eye was hurting badly. Anna took Elisa’s hand, and she smiled. “It’s okay, you got into a bad wreck. You must’ve forgot your inhaler at home.” Elisa instantly remembered the rainy day at the fair, and she was angry. “Were you talking about me to your boyfriend? Did- Did I ruin your car? Oh God, this is all my fault.” Anna sighed. “Well, yes, it’s messed up pretty badly,” she laughed.

“And no, I was not talking about you. I realized you forgot your inhaler, because your breathing was weakening, and I guess because of your asthma and your anxiety. I’m really sorry, Elisa. We knew if we told you, you would freak out, which would worsen your breathing even more, so I just told Lucas silently. Next thing I knew, you were gone and we had to call the police.” Elisa wavered my hand. “I’m a horrible person. I ruined your and Luke’s time, by ruining myself.” Elisa covered her face, embarrassed.

Eventually, Elisa learned not to assume things or leave without telling anyone. Her actions led to bad consequences which affected her mental and physical health.
