We Will Survive
“Oh no! The jungle!”
“It’s like the first time when we were marooned here. Wind. Fire. But this…”
“My home!” Jane looked at her father. Tears streamed down here face. “My husband!”
The two looked at the burning fallen trees that were once Jane’s jungle home. The smoke of the fire mixed with the smoke and ash that the volcano was still spewing. It was inconceivable that the lava could leave such destruction in its wake. Then again, Jane could see that the storm they had come through to get here had wreaked its own havoc. Many of the jungle trees were fallen before the blaze had even started. She saw that her own beautiful tree house, so near the beach, had fallen. It was not touched by the lava or the fire that the lava had started. But the slowly dying but still strong wind kept blowing like a blast furnace. It would not be long before there would be no trace that Jane had ever lived here.
Jane could not take here wide, crying eyes from the scene. But her father had looked away and was scanning the jungle and the beach. Surely, his son-in-law had made it.
“There!” He pointed down the beach.
“Tarzan!” Jane ran to her husband and the band of apes he was leading.
Tarzan embraced his wife. They held each other for a long time.
Finally, Tarzan held his wife at arm’s length. He looked into her eyes. “We will rebuild our life here. We’ll go farther down the coast and find a place where we can build in the trees again. Where we can be safe with our friends.”
Jane looked at the apes that had been her husband’s family when he was a child. She had come to love them too. She nodded at them, then at her husband. Yes. They wold rebuild. They would survive. They would thrive. After all… She was Jane and he was Tarzan.
