POEM STARTER
Write a descriptive poem which portrays a busy city.
You could use metaphors, imagery, and appeal to the senses, to really capture the feel of a city.
The City of Dreams
What would you see
in the city of dreams?
A mini sun?
Glowing streets?
Benjamin Franklins
Growing on trees?
Cramped in a world of giants
Giant people, giant buildings,
Giant pizzas, giant prices
Rats as big as your leg
From your ankle
To the high of your thigh
Cars and people buzzing like bees
You wonder what would happen
If you whacked it with a bat
Or if you jabbed it with your knee
Instead of honey,
Out would fly pennies
Nickels, quarters, dimes,
And men dressed to the nines
A 24-hour carnival
Paint on every wall
Train tracks underground
Be careful not to fall!
No one ever sleeps
In the city of dreams
Because life is a wonderland
That’s what it means.
