POEM STARTER

The Thirsty Fire
If desires are a flame, then I am a wildfire.
I will burn this hopeless forest to the ground
And rebuild it as something new.
If the ranger has me,
I will rid him of his power
And take it as my own.
I will grasp each and every one of these wild animals
In my wild fist
Unti they bow their sylvan heads to me.
I will stop at nothing to spread without being extinguished.
I will stop at nothing to keep those pesky firefighters where they belong.
I will sing the praises of those who adore me,
And I will drink the tears of those who fear me.
The feeling of being the one in charge
Fuels me,
And it tastes like the sweetest nectar.
You cry,
_“Why are you like this!?”_
__
Asking God what you did to deserve this horrible tragedy,
This wildfire,
And he will not reply.
Instead, I will,
And I will burn your villiage to the ground
For saying such horrible things.
For every bucket of water you throw at me,
I will send five times as many flames.
Why would you treat me in such ways
When I do such great things for you?
Suddenly, I dwindle down.
I find myself slipping away,
Losing my grip on the forest I tried so hard to preserve,
And suddenly I am lost to the wind.
You cheer and party through the night,
Glad to be rid of me.
But you’re not.
I’m still there,
Bitter as my still-standing regime.
I’m still there,
Sure as the economic toil that surely had nothing to do with me.
I’m still there,
And I may be floating away like the ashes of the trees I murdered so shamelessly,
But I’m still there
In my legacy,
Whether you like me or not.
