Write a blank verse poem on a topic that's important to you.

Blank verse poetry doesn't rhyme, but has a very strict structure which builds a melody through rhythm. (One way to create this is to structure each line with the same amount of syllables, and the same syllabic stresses, like you might if you were writing the verses of a song.)

Gone

My mother she is dead

Died lying in bed

My dad now is gone

When will he be back?

My brothers don’t know what to do

My friends are all quiet around me

I cut myself off for a time

But now I’m trying to be me again

My life isn’t the same no more

I don’t know why it had to change

But my mother is dead

And my dad is gone

I love writing! The earliest piece of writing I have was written in second grade. I want to grow as a writer and I hope I learn a lot.
