Friends? No. They were brothers. Maybe it started out as friends, but by the time they were both 20 they were closer than they were to their blood siblings.

They would follow each other anywhere.

And maybe… maybe that should have been a clue.

Lucas would have killed for Derek. Derek would have lived for Lucas. Those are both very different but so similar concepts.

If everything else in the world crashed and burned, Derek would continue living if Lucas was there.

If everyone in the world was against Derek, Lucas would kill them all if he had to.

When Derek got hurt, by his girlfriend, no less, Lucas lost it.

Lucas was seeing white he was so angry. He was ready to hurt Derek’s girlfriend, the hospital staff that kept him under a coma for now, and even Derek’s parents for not being there all of the time.

Lucas’ not-so-slowly became extremely revengeful, even though most of the things he was getting mad about things that weren’t the person’s fault.

One day Derek woke up to find that not only had his girlfriend intentionally hurt him, but his best friend, his brother, was in jail. Derek didn’t even know what to do.

Apparently he had just lost it when a nurse had told his parents he still wasn’t getting much better. Lucas had been so mad at the fact that the parents who rarely visited their own son in the hospital, and the fact that Derek hadn’t gotten better, and it all just tipped him over the edge.

Now Derek had to visit his best friend in jail, and would only be able to visit him in jail, for the next three years. Apparently ramming into a doctor on purpose, and decking Derek’s dad, was against the law. (Derek was not amused)
