Reality Check

I am made entirely of flaws, stitched together by good intentions.

I only stand here today because of good-willed interventions.

There are days where all I can see are the faults carved all over me.

Days, I find myself sorting through all my personal debris

Sometimes I forget, all I can accomplish with a hand held out

But then I remember all the good my actions can sprout!

I think this is where I am at my best

Or at least the thing that makes me least depressed

Oh, what I would give to see the world smile!

To feed, to clothe, her inhabitants and make things less hostile.

To let children live until they grow old, a last breath from a wrinkled face as their stories are told

I am thankful for age, that not many acquire

For each year I get, it lights a fire.
