This Is My Home Now
It all began when I was born. I was in the worst condition that this world could offer me. It was a fate I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemies. I was born in a litter in a mansion in California. Okay, that’s not that bad in hindsight.
But there was a catch. There were a ton of children with said mansion, like a rat invasion. Also my litter mates, they stole everything they could. My favorite bed spot, my food, even the one human I liked was taken by them. I was constantly grabbed and sweezed by small kids and left with only a corner of a pink bed.
But hey, ain’t that life for a cat. Particularly for a cat with black fur. I always overheard from the man and the woman of the mansion that I wouldn’t be adopted because of that. As the days went on, I saw some of my litter mates get taken away faster than ever. Those bastards got their own territory before me.
One day, one of the kids decided to bring in some unfamiliar friends. As soon as I heard a extra screams in the house, my eyes widened.
“Guys, I have one black cat,” the young boy I knew said. “His name is Night.”
I was alone at the top of a staircase as I heard the rapid sound of small feet stomping on the titles.
I tried to joint any as fast as I could. The first place I went to was the bed I slept in. Unfortunately, when I thought I was safe under the dark covers, small hands grabbed on my sides. They dragged me into the burning light and in the tight grip of the children.
“Come and pet him,” the little boy told his friends.
“Awww, he’s so cute,” another said in the highest pitch you could imagine. The children proceeded to pass me around like a ball. I thought I was going to fall at any second. Their screams deafened me. I tried to let out a cry for help.
Unfortunately, the children didn’t listen. The only salvation I was given was when I was thrown by one of the kids. For that, I wasted no time running away. Those kids didn’t really bother to chase after me. Apparently, they were more interested in this black box that made horrible sounds than me.
That was when I saw the best thing I could have ever have seen. When I jointed down the stairs, I saw an ajar door. Outside was so beautiful. There were lush greenery, and even delicious birds chirping. I walked out the door, not even bothering to look back.
Why would I? Those humans failed to find me a home. I had to take matters into my own paws. Or just live forever in the forest. When the day became dark, I decided to claim a tree as my territory.
I tried to cuddle up and get a good nights sleep. But there was a constant noise that bothered me. It was like the children’s laugh. But it was deeper than I was used to. When I opened my eyes, my fur froze.
In the distance, there was a coyote. It’s eyes glowed bright yellow, like an ominous sunrise. The coyote even cracked a smile as it witnessed me. We were both at a standstill. How was I suppose to immediately run away if such a threat?
But as soon as the coyote sent one of its paws forward, I jumped and sprinted. I could hear the creature laugh as I ran through the forest. All I could think was why did I leave my home. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but at least I wasn’t in the middle of nowhere fending for myself. Now, I was going to die horribly.
Even worse, I would be all alone. As I began to slow down, I noticed something. It was a small hole next to a tree. The hole was pure black, almost like it had no depth. But it was small enough for me alone.
Foolishly, I took a quick glance behind me. Unsurprisingly, the coyote was just about to pounce me. With no time to spare, I leaped into the void. At first, I was surrounded by nothing. The air was nearly unbreathable, and it was as cold as snow.
That wasn’t for long though. Eventually, I rolled onto fresh green grass. The light from, wherever I was, was too blinding at times. I could barely make out the sound around me. As the scenery began to appear in my vision, I was shocked by what I saw.
I was in the most beautiful garden, sprinkled with pink flowers and the skies covered by the towering tree branches. As I walked around the new place, something felt off. The place seemed just like my home garden, but somehow warmer. That was when a little bell went off near my ears. I flinched, not knowing what the sound was.
That was when a little pink dot darted past my eyes. It was a Barbie doll, with a little butterfly wings.
“How are you?” The little fairy asked.
Admittedly, I had the worst answer to that question.
I swatted at the little fairy, thinking I could eat it.
Hey, it looked tasty. After swatting at the fairy for awhile, it protested.
“Hey, what’s with you,” it shouted before flying away.
Regardless, I got ready to pounce once again. I hadn’t had a good hunt, and claiming this little fairy as my prey was perfect.
I chased it through the forest. Honestly, it was the same green plains as was used to, except more vibrant with color. Before I knew it, the fairy was out of sight and I stood in the middle of a strange town. The floor was laced in gold, and the buildings towered over everything. Around me were the strangest people I could witness.
They looked like regular people, but their eyes were all unnatural green and pinks, and their ears were like daggers. None of them noticed me at first. That was until one specific creature noticed me wander around. It appeared to be a little boy.
He appeared to have pink eyes, noticeably bigger than most humans.
“Oh my goodness,” the strange kid exclaimed. “It’s you!”
He picked me up, just like any other child.
“I found the savior!” The kid shouted in the streets.
“What do you mean?” I thought to myself when I was paraded around the town, more strange people coming close to me. “I just came here.”
Every creature in the town saw me and were in my face.
Eventually, the nightmare lessened and I was in front of a castle. It wasn’t just gold, which trimmed its roof and windows. It was mostly silver, being the same color as the clouds it touched above. It was unlike anything I saw before, especially when the boy brought me through the crystal gates and guards.
Before long, I was brought to a rather fancy living room. Sitting on the hardened couch was an old creature. He resembled a cat dressed in pure white, like me.
“My son,” he called out. “Is that what I think it is?”
“Yes papa,” the little boy cried out. “It’s the legendary dragon destined to save the princess and the land.”
“Excuse me?” I thought to myself as I was still held up. “I’m the what destined to what now?”
The best I could do is let out a little meow in protest.
That only motivated the old creature to come close to me.
“Don’t worry my sweetest warrior,” the old creature said, trying to comfort me as he scratched my head. “We’ll prepare you. My name is King Fredrick, and the boy holding you is my son, Prince Vince.
“We are the elves of the noble kingdom, Camaraderie. We used to be a prosperous nation, but a wicked sorcerer sought power. The sorcerer, named Druid, tried to conquer Camaraderie. He failed after a vicious battle, but he took my beloved baby daughter.”
“And?” I thought to myself. “How is that my problem?”
“I searched everywhere but to no avail,” King Fredrick cried out. “Until I found a prophecy about the last dragon, a fierce beast with fur and chaws.”
“Wait,” I thought to myself.
“They really think I’m the dragon.”
“Over the years, I lost hope that such a dragon would ever come,” Frederick cried out. “But you came.”
“Well, you picked the wrong creature,” I thought to myself. “But go off.”
“Now we must prepare you mighty warrior,” Frederick said before quickly turning his back to run off.
He went behind an ajar door, with the torturous sound of clinging coming from inside. When Frederick came out, he had a silver skin with a crossbow attached to it.
“Now this,” he emphasized, forcibly coming closer to me as he showed the bizarre skin.
“This is the armor gifted to me by the prophet who told me about you.
“It’ll give your humble being the strength you need on your journey.”
Frederick tried to rap the fake skin onto my fur. Unfortunately, despite my defiance, he succeeded.
“Papa, do you think he’s ready?” Vince naively asked.
Thankfully for me, he said that as he lowered me to the ground.
As I tried to move in the strange armor, a bright light flashed in front of me. It was green and blue, seemingly shaped like a map.
“That is your guide to the world,” Frederick told me. “You’ll need to go to Shadow’s Peak right there in order to save my daughter. Before you can do so, you must tend the Valley, the Broken Hills, and the Undergrowth.”
That was when I saw dancing in front of me the lands that Frederick mentioned. From the lush green hills of the Valley and the Broken Hills, to the dark forest of the Undergrowth and Shadow’s Peak. Frederick then picked me up, beginning to walk in front of a window.
“Know that I truly believe in you,” he told me. “You may not know it, but you do seem to have the heart of a warrior.
“Now go!”
That was when I was thrown straight out of the window, falling towards the ground below. Why did this had to happen to me. But I never hit the ground. Instead, I was swooped by a sudden force; it was me flying.
I looked down at the grass below me. For the first time in my life, I was truly in control. Here, in this world, there were no children to chase me around. Nor were there predators to chase me either. Instead, I was in this magical land.
I was could chase instead of being chased, and still be considered a hero. Maybe I’m a little apathetic towards this princess. But if I save her, I get to stay here forever. Sounds like a good deal to me
