Angel

I sit in the frozen cave, trying not to lose hope. Someone will come. Someone will save me.

They have to.

My backpack is buried somewhere in the snow. It contains the little stuffed puppy I’ve had since I was a child. I take him everywhere with me, for good luck. He’s probably gone now.

I look down at my hands, both a mix of my skin color and blue. I can’t feel them.

I’m hugging my legs, frozen in this position. My cheeks feel so cold that they burn. My eyes are crying and the whole world looks like a blur. All I can see is the entrance to the cave, covered in icicles. The outside looks like a dream.

The crisp air bites at my skin. I want to touch them, to warm them. I can barely fewl as the wind blows snow into my hair, distracted by everything else that’s happening.

I don’t know how long it’s been. Three hours? Thirty minutes? The sun hasn’t set yet.

I think I’m losing. My body won’t move no matter how hard I try. And now I know my fate. I am going to die.

I’m sorry Dad. I didn’t even get to say goodbye.

As I start to say goodbye to everyone I’ve ever loved inside my head, hoping that they can somehow hear me, I see the soillouhete an angel.
