I woke up this morning and,

everything felt different

The snap of the straw echoing

my irrelevance

The sting of these blisters and

bruises of anger

Have left their stain from the chains

You ordained-

Again and again

and again!

But no more…

For today I have awakened

And you had been warned-

I’m one tear away from crying my last

And one step away from making you my past

The time to make amends has far bypassed

I’m taking back my heart after all,

It was mine from the start

And you can have back your hateful, angry words, and loathsome counterparts

No longer must you look at me with disdain

I’ve awakened today
