POEM STARTER
Inspired by Maranda Quinn
Write a poem in any form, on any topic you like, which uses a single metaphor throughout.
Try to develop the metaphor as the poem progresses, and use it as a central theme throughout.
I Rot.
I rot on the inside and the out.
Like a flower in a drought,
My petals shut in a closed off motion.
I can’t help but feel as if I’m drifting in an ocean.
Far away from all help,
I don’t even want to yelp.
I rot on the inside and the out.
I was told I always would angrily pout.
At any minor inconvenience,
I would beg for lenience.
My own body shuts itself down.
A cause for a simple frown.
She looked me in the eyes,
As the blonde girl by her cries,
Claiming it was her own fault.
I knew the girl was a vault,
Her emotions twisting into a puddle.
Even though her tears were subtle,
I could tell she was rotting on the inside and out.
All I knew to do to help was to look down and pick at my grout.
