The British Nanny Herself

"Cut!"

It was a gorgeous fall evening, the sun had started to set and the whole scene was covered in a golden glow. I smiled, feeling the warmth of the sun and wondering if this was a dream. But I was awake. Living _in_ my dream.

"That was good," said the director. "Let's run it a few more times and really focus on the emotions your character is feeling."

He wanted to talk about emotions? I was feeling about a million of them. I had loved Mary Poppins since I was a little girl, an obsession I had shared with my aunt. Now I had the chance of a lifetime to become the British nanny herself and bring the character to life in a new way. Filming had been amazing. From the chimney sweepers, to interacting with the children, and pulling things out of my bottomless bag. Currently we were shooting one of my favorite scenes. Mary Poppins was about to fly away with her umbrella. When the director gave the cue, I began to move through the meadow of flowers, both arms outstretched. Illuminated. Enchanted. Almost magic. In that moment it was as if I really could fly.
