Mary is a ten year old, little girl. She lives in an apartment, in the second floor. Her father is an accountant and her mother is a nurse. Both of them was working late for the past three months. Since Mary sees herself as an adult, she decided to make herself a peanut butter sandwich. She left her doll on her bed and ran to the kitchen and start the preparations. However, she only found a bag of brown bread, but no peanut butter jar in the fridge. She thinks for a solution, and an idea pops up like a lightbulb. She quickly ran to her shoebox under her bed and pulls it out. She lifts up the lid to see she has two dollars and five cents. She puts them in her purse and ran outside her apartment; and locks it up, before heading out. As she ran outside, she sees two boys were dragging a red fox by a leather leash. It was whining for help, but the boys were laughing as they kick it, with their feet. Mary didn’t like that and threatens them to let the poor thing go. They were twice her size and age, but that didn’t stop her from acting strong, even though she was shaking out of fear. They looked at her purse and then they whispered to each other, before pulling out they hand towards her, “Sure thing, sweetheart. Only if you gave us your money and the stupid red fox is yours.” She quickly hugs the purse, but the sight of the poor fox was heart breaking. So she agrees half heartily to the agreement and gave them two dollars and her five cents. Once they are gone, she untangle the leash; expecting it to leave on its own, but the fox looks at her with its intellect gaze as if it knew what she does for him. She tried to convince it to leave her and enjoy its freedom, but the fox was stubborn and kept following her to her apartment like a puppy. She didn’t have the heart to refuse it cute gesture, so she let it in. She made him a bed from her old towels and placed two bowls one was empty to place some food once her parents are back while the other was filled with water. She decided to have just plain toast and watch TV. She fell a sleep while watching some late night cartoon shows. Little did she knew her neighbor was using lots of oil to fry some beef steak for dinner while smoking his favorite cigarette. As he was busy cooking, he coughs a bit and the cigarette falls into the pan. Then a huge flame was forming by the impact, causing a strong fire to rise to the roof, burning the neighbor’s kitchen, before it came to the other side where Mary was a sleep. The fire was three inches away from her, she was so tired she didn’t wake up. She was doomed to be a corpse, however, as the fire reaches her like a monster, the red fox enters the living room and opens its mouth, sucking the beastly flame in great speed, till it was no more.

The news of a burning building reached the news and her parents left their work to check on their baby girl, who they found was fast a sleep with a red fox sleeping nicely on her belly.
