rain

When it started raining, no one in my small town thought anything of it and kept going on with our routined lives. My name is Betty, and I lived on the farm with my granddaddy and grandmother. My mama and papa are somewhere in California, or so my Grandaddy told me. I haven’t seen them in a while, but now I fear I won’t see anyone again. My Grandma never really said anything, she just sat in her mothers rocking chair, where my great Grammy passed away in. She always would sit in that chair and make scarfs and blankets for our animals. My dog Bud is sitting next to as i write this, shivering. I’m glad I brought a blanket for him. I am afraid this will be my last journal entry.

<The day before>

“Grandma?” I said. I wanted to ask her if she could show me how to make one of those excellent blankets she makes for Bud and our animals, since she didn’t make one for me ever. “Grandma?” I said again. She didn’t move, so I shook her arm a little. This is the exact moment I felt that my hand was wet. When I looked down, my hand was covered in blood. My Grammys blood.

“Grandpa!” I screamed. I felt helpless and looked away, hoping Grandaddy would come quicker. Outside I saw something move, I assumed it was one of our animals. Then I realized, they can’t get out of their pen, and their all deathly afraid of rain. “Grandaddy!” I screamed as loud as I could. I was afraid to feel for a pulse on my Grammy.

I called for my best friend. “Bud!” Of course, he came running to me. “I think there’s something outside buddy.” I said while tears flooded my face and I washed off my hands. “Help me look.” Bud and I went outside, I believe we were both shaking a little.

As we turned a corner of our house, I saw a tall man wearing a black rain jacket and holding a black umbrella. My first thought was, maybe he could help me.

“Bud, sit.” I said to my dog as he sat down on the snow. “Stay!” I called to him as a ran up to the man. “Excuse me, sir!”

“Excuse me, sir!” I tapped him on his shoulder. Nothing. “Sir?” Nothing. Finally, he turned his head and his head only.

“Hello.” The tall man said. This is the moment I saw a green faced creature with no eyes and a almost tapped up mouth.

I screamed. I don’t think I have ever screamed as loud as I did. I ran back to the house where my dead Grammy laid, no where else to go.

“Bud, come!” I commanded him. He followed behind me as we both ran inside and locked the door behind us.

“Grandaddy!” I picked up Bud and ran upstairs, calling out desperately for my grandfather. As I looked inside my grandfathers bedroom, I saw a window open and cold air blowing inside of the already cold house. “Grandaddy, why is the window open?“ Relieved to hear a person in the closet and see a shadow. “Something bad has happened! I need you downstairs!” I yelled as I put Bud down on my feet and shut the window, then picking him back up. I turned around, only to see the green man next to my Grandaddy in the corner chair.

“Hello again.”
