The Battle
My sleep was interrupted by the sound of metal against metal and horrifying screams coming from the gardens. I jump out of bed and run to the window seeing the war unraveling outside so I immediately put on clothes and grab my weapons and move to the door. As I’m reaching for it, it opens and a tall dark haired man with a scar down his face and a sword in his hand stands there facing me with a dark twisted smile. He takes a swing at me and although he may be bigger and stronger, I make up for it in speed. I duck and go around him kicking that back of his leg and as he drops I put my dagger to his throat and cut painting my dagger and my bedroom floor red. I waste no time and take off down the hall And reach the double doors of the palace. The doors are swung open as a young lad is thrown through the doors covered in blood and dirt. He try’s crawling alway from the man who had just thrown him. While the man is focused on the young boy I take this opportunity to sneak behind and dive my knife into the side of his throat. He lay there chocking on his blood as I help the boy up. He gives thanks as we go outside and look at everyone in our kingdom fighting the other kingdom we have been fighting for years but never have they ambushed us at night So standing side by side with the boy we join the others fighting together. Moving fast and dodging the strikes we take a few man down. Thinking we have the upper hand the gardens are set a flame and thousands of arrows are falling from the skies taking the lives of our people. I watch as my people are dropping one after another when I get this sharp sudden pain in my chest. I look down to the sticky red blood pouring out of my chest around the arrow. My legs go numb as I collapse to the floor my vision darkening as the life in my body slowly starts to fade. The young boy dropped to my side holding my hand so I wouldn’t be afraid I’m my last moments. I look at him and whisper in his ear “win this”
“I will” he says sadly. I smile as I take my last breath and my hand slips from his and everything goes black.
Her hand slips from mine and I’m overflown with sadness. She saved me and I could not do the same, but I can keep my promise to the girl. With that in mind I rise from her side grab my sword and move towards the enemies and dive my sword into there chests also trying to avoid flying arrows. I was engulfed by rage that I don’t remember killing all these men but the maid brought my attention back to the mess that had made. I looked around seeing no enemies in sight and more then half our men dead. I looked to her catching my breath as she gave me a soft smile. “You did it” she said softly. Part of me was happy that I kept my promise but I was still upset she was gone, she had always been so nice even in her last moments. My thoughts were interrupted by the king’s voice. I stand quick and straight showing my respect. “No need for that young man” “ my daughter would be proud of what you did today” so as a thanks I want to make you my right hand man.
