Unexpected
_There I sat in my empty house full of nothing but furniture. Luxurious bags, designer clothes, and fancy furniture, with a husband earning six figures. Extravagant gifts and parties, and thousands of dollars spent on the simplest things. Maids, chauffeurs, and my husband's assistants swarmed his house. I looked around me and found only a house full of useless things. I called my husband to see where he was but he didn’t answer. I searched on Instagram to see his socials and there it was. His ex-girlfriend sitting on my husband's lap and they were both smiling. It was posted thirty minutes ago. Tears filled my eyes but I refused to let them go. It was three years ago this man said he loved me and today was our third anniversary. Time after time he would bring this woman home in my face. It was no question who he liked more as even his family accepted this affair. I grabbed my bags and called the movers. Today as a gift to my dear husband I gifted him the divorce documents. My lovely new chapter awaits and no longer will I be disrespected in my own home. I smiled as I walked out and drove to the airport. I had a job offer in California and I had just bought a home there. I boarded the plane and slept until I arrived at my destination. When I got off I met with my sister Jazmine. _
“ Hey Girl! How have you been? Oh, never mind I know how you’ve been but I’m seriously glad you broke up with that jerk of a human being and his toxic family. I know you might be feeling down so I’m going to treat you to a drink and after that, we’re going to the spa, okay.” - Jazmine
“Jazzy, you don’t have to do that but thank you so much. “ - Carmen
“ I know I don’t but I want to. I’ve seen women break up with their significant others and as much as I don’t want you to be sad, you better not run back to that man. Today we're going to enjoy our day and be happy. After all, it's been a long time since we have seen each other. We are going to Eldberry house and the challenge for today is not to talk to our exes.” - Jazmine
I smiled, “ I like that challenge.” - Carmen
“ Well, in the words of Parker Rooney, challenge accepted! We’re here! “ - Jazmine
_We got out of the car and waited in one to be seated. _
“ Good morning ladies, welcome to the Eldberry house is this a party of two?” - waiter
“ Yes we are thank you.” - Jazmine
“ Alright, if you please come with me to your table and is there nothing I can get you to start you off with your beverages?” - Waiter
“ Yes ma’am. We will have some tequila please and thank you.” -Jazmine
“Okay, I will deliver your drinks in just a minute ladies.” - Waiter
“ So since you know how I’ve been how have you been doing these days?”- Carmen
“ I have been the provider, the protector, doing comedy, satisfying others, and helping others. You know me. I haven’t been talking to my husband so if you see him calling my phone just ignore it.” - Jazmine
“Why are you not talking to him?” - Carmen
“ It’s quite complicated. Talking to people is hard. I deal with so many people I just don’t; have the energy to talk to him too. I have been trying to divorce him but I can’t. I knew it was the right thing so I asked his assistant to give him the papers for me. I love him but I’m tired. Life is going on and constantly being everyone’s caregiver is very energy draining. I just don’t feel like I can exert any more energy out of me for another person. His secret admirer came to visit me at my job a few months ago demanding I let him go so she can have him. I thought about it and I’m just holding him back.” - Jazmine
“ Jazmine, I think instead of a divorce you should try getting therapy or at least discuss it with him instead of just breaking everything off. He loves you and you guys could go so far. Your fate doesn’t have to be the same as mine. My soon-to-be ex-husband cheated on me but yours never did and loves you with his whole heart. Perhaps discuss with him and express how you feel. If anything babe instead of a divorce you guys can take a break. A big part of being in a relationship is you guys should be able to talk to each other about these things. “ - Carmen
“ Thanks, Carmen I will see what I can do.”
~ _phone rings _
“ Oh, it's my husband-. - Carmen
“ Ex - husband you mean? - Jazmine
“ Where are you and what is this paper on the table?” - Jason
“Those are divorce papers. Can you sign them?” - Carmen
“ No, I’m not signing them. Where are you? - Jason
Jazmine grabbed my phone “ Away from you, jerk.” - Jazmine
“ Who is this?” - Jason
I grabbed my phone back. “ Jason since you're not going to sign the papers I will go about the process on my own. If you have anything to say to me please contact my lawyer, Jason. Bonne Journeé. “ - Carmen
I ended the call.
“ Good for you!” - Jazmine
“ Thank you.”
“ It’s the least I can do for all the things you’ve done for me. Even though you're my bigger sister you have always been my real mother. I don’t want to see you get taken advantage of or ever feel less than, you know.” - Jazmine
“ Yes, I appreciate that. Thank you!” - Carmen
“ By the way do you remember Nickolas Holden from Edmentary High.” - Jazmine
“ My old friend in high school?” - Carmen
“ Yes, him, he wanted to talk with you but didn’t know how to get a hold of you so he called me. Here is his phone number If you guys would like to reconnect.” - Jazmine
“ Oh, Thank you. I may give him a call. It’s certainly been a while since I’ve seen him. Did he tell you anything.” - Carmen
“ It’s kind of best if he tells you everything.” - Jazmine
“ Why is something wrong?” - Carmen
“ No, he just should be the person to say what he has to say by himself. I would seriously advise you speak with him soon.” - Jazmine
