Intimate Betrayal
The raindrops sliced through the air like arrows before they splattered onto the rooftop around us. My cape was whipping every which way.
_Damn this cape_, I thought to myself as he stared up at me like a field mouse would if it were cornered by a barn owl. His hands shook as his finger wrapped around the trigger, with the barrel of the gun staring me down. I had to act fast.
Why now? I knew I was going to have to tell him eventually, but I had imagined it would be a more…intimate setting.
Now we’re stuck on a rooftop of some random apartment in the pouring rain, and he thinks he’s about to kill me and save the city.
I lowered to the ground and took a step forward. He glared in response.
“Marcus,” I pleaded calmly, “I know you think you know what you’re doing but I promise you that you don’t. Put the gun down and I’ll explain everything.” I might have superpowers but I’m sure as hell not invincible.
“Yeah…yeah right! I’m not falling for your psycho mind games you-you freak!” He stammered. My heart was wrenching at the scene.
Marcus is the last person who should be in this position. He’s too caring, too fragile. He’s my everything and it was killing me to see him this way…because of me no less.
“Marcus I’m not using any powers right now aside from my disguise. I just want to talk.”
_BANG! _He fired a warning shot that whizzed right past my ear. __

Shit! He’s not joking around.
“Marcus, wait! I’m going to show you something, do not fire that thing again or I really will use my abilities on you.” He tensed up, but his finger left the trigger, if only just slightly. I can work with slightly. “Just… don’t freak out. Please.”
“Alright then, you have 10 seconds.” More than enough time. I snapped my finger and soon enough a purple cloud formed and began swirling around me. Seconds later and my disguise was wiped. I was me again.
“Baby?” His voice cracked. The look of betrayal on his face made me wish he’d shot me already. God, I have got to be the worst girlfriend ever. He put the gun down and stood up. When I stepped to him he reached down, cupping my face in his hands. “Taylor, what’s going on?”
“You need to come with me and I’ll tell you everything, but it’s not safe here.” I grabbed his hand and started to walk but he yanked me back to him.
“What do you mean? Can’t you call the attacks off?”
“Marcus it’s not me, I’ve been trying to put a stop to all of this. We need to get going. Now.”
