POEM STARTER

Write a poem from the perspective of someone drunk and brave.

Play with the style of the poem to convey their current state.

Bitters

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind,

Isn’t that what you tell yourself?

It must be quite blissful inside that head safely among the clouds,

where thoughts of me and what we’d seen will never touch the ground.

Contented peace in your day to day is what you’ve now achieved,

but in your nights, whiskey-soaked, I bet you dream of me.

You’ll narrate a sated life for yourself and those you dutifully carry,

but in your heart is the wine stain of the desire you’ve never buried.

So tread on, noble one, and cherry pick your acknowledged oaths,

proselytizing the only Way one can ever be at home,

plead the fifth despite having no right or wrong,

and watch as Time removes you from all of my songs.
