Street lights faded to darkness as they took a step into the alley, muted sounds and the echoes of whispers bounced through the tight walkways.

“We need to get out of here, now!” He squeaked, putting a hand to the wall only to jerk it away at the cold sensation that wet his hand.

“The streets are just as bad if not worse. Especially now” She cautioned to him.

Treading the dark alley, ambient light the only thing giving and indicator of where to next step their ears buzzed. Each sound, each click, every muted word and hushed voice made them suppress the desire to jerk their head away and run.

The sound of clanging metal and “shnk”, light reflecting off the blade that dropped where they were stepping.

A voice from above rang out, quiet but resonating between the alley walls. “Got more rats than usual tonight, guess the pigs on the street are having a feast trying to catch ‘em” soft giggles turned to bellowing laughs as something bigger dropped in front of the two. Taking the blade jutting from the ground and waving it at the two.

“So why don’t you squeak to me what you rats are doing in my alleys” the woman towered over them, her silhouette sharp against the glistening walls.
