POEM STARTER
Write a poem inspired by a tarot card.
Some of the characters of these cards include Death, Justice, Judgement, the Moon, the Magician, and many more. What can this character symbolise in your poem?
Queen of Swords, Reversed
A mother’s worth is visible in her child’s success.
Fixed solidly on the hard cushion of the earthen ceiling.
A person’s worth is appreciated by her accomplishments.
Glaring stilly above the cumulus crowd.
A woman’s worth is accepted in her friendships.
Watching hungrily while the distant birds swarm and leave.
I love this. The feminine vs the masculine is so interesting in Tarot. This has a (excuse the accidental pun) sharp feeling about it— femininity as something more demanding & limiting than is usually represented in tarot.
“Cumulus crowd” is amazing. It adds depth to the typical card art & really hits the bullseye re: the vibe of the Queen cards — it’s loneliness & distance & power & softness & authority neatly and affectively (and effectively) summarized in two words.
That’s waaaay too wordy. Sorry!
