Yesterday I Changed

Today was the day, today I am a new person, today I will change.

“Happy birthday love,” mother whispered, covering her trembling voice. She had entered my room. “Y-you ready?

I tried to whisper back to comfort her but I had a brick stuck in my throat. I should’ve comforted her, but I didn’t.

I was deafened by the banging on the door, my ears playing a high pitched note.

They came. They killed her, my mother. She dropped, lifeless on the ground.

They took me, I didn’t cry or scream. I just moved with them, just like last time.

They took me to a home, just like that one. One year, one day, my whole life changes.

“Love! Dinner is ready!” My new mother shouted from the kitchen.

Yesterday was that day, I became a new person, yesterday I changed.
