POEM STARTER
Write a free verse poem from the voice of someone who feels resentful.
Free verse poetry does not have a structured rhyme scheme, can have lines of irregular length, and does not have to keep to a regular meter.
Blackened Heart
We only bring out the worst in each other
Keep each other’s lies about loving others
Lies like, “my heart can’t be broken, it’s just meant to be shared,”
and “love isn’t worth it without passion everywhere.”
But you can’t truly love her if she thinks you’re only hers
And I can’t truly love me if I let you set my worth
So, you say you love me, but, no, you don’t really
all we truly have are these passionate feelings
You say we are fire, and love makes us glow,
but these flames are now burning out of control.
Truer love makes the hearth of home warm,
but what we’ve got going is setting off alarms.
So, I say, “i love you,” and I want to mean it,
but the longer I stay, the more I demean it
