Sarah recently returned from her evening out with Rami for the first time. She met him on a dating app and and was impressed with the restaurant, his clothing and appearance. However, something was still nagging at her to dig a little deeper, some red flag that she caught but can’t seem to remember. So she did what she usually did when she went on a date and was still confused about her emotions. She let the two sides of her brain take charge. She called the emotional and imaginative part, Lisa, and the more analytical and logical side of her brain, Salwa.
Lisa: I really liked him! I think he has a lot of potential. He was a good listener and asked me some interesting questions about my life.
Salwa: Like when he asked you whether or not teaching was the best career choice for women?
Lisa: Well, that was a bit weird and sexist to be fair. Maybe he meant that women can be nurturing than men in these types of professions.
Salwa: Yeah, but remember that you don’t believe in discriminating between genders in positions. It is a big thing for you.
Lisa: True, true. But did you see his eyes? They were such a beautiful shade of hazel. Imagine our children having that color of eyes.
Salwa: Children? You need to calm down and think about this logically. Remember when you asked about his friends and he said his best friend is his mom? Didn’t you find that odd?
Lisa: It is a bit strange that a man in his 30s does not have other best friends other than his mom. But maybe that shows that he is caring to his family? That’s a good thing right?
Salwa: Listen, you need to stop creating excuses for his nonsense. Other than his appearance, what really did you like about him?
Lisa: Umm.
Salwa: Exactly. I say next.
Sarah nodded her head and appreciated this conversation happening in her head. She sent Rami the usual “thanks but no thanks message” and started swiping left and right on her app once again. She is not willing to settle and waste her time again, and she knows that the man who will appease her logic and her emotions is out there, and she will find him sooner than she thinks.
