Huh. That Wasn’t Supposed To Happen.

Dorothy Jean stood in front of her overly ecstatic brother. Her heals smacked against the marble tile as she impatiently tapped her left foot, her eyes dancing from side to side as her eldest brother bounced from one side of his work bench to the other. He seemed to gleam with excitement. He practically shook.

“Ray, I have a lot of work I have to get done. So could we please hurry?”

Raymond quickly took his sister’s hand and pulled her behind the bench. He scrambled around the room, taking a lab coat, goggles and a plastic shield back to his sister and decked her out in the most protective fashion he could. Nothing would touch his sister. Or she’d have his hide.

Dorothy glanced down at her attire and then made eye contact with the boy, now utterly confused, “Why?”

“Just wait, you’ll see!” He eagerly held up the shield in front of them and reached for something deep in his coat pocket. Out he came with a large remote, with antennas and wires sticking out from every angle, threatening to shock the daylights out of him. He shoved the remote towards Dorothy, “Press this button.” He motion towards the only button on the remote: a large red circle that nearly took up the whole front panel.

Dorothy took it hesitantly, tilting it as she inspected the bulky rectangular box. She warily glanced side-eye at her brother, “You know, normally they tell people NOT to touch the red button,” she pointed at it, “are you sure about this?”

Ray waved it off, “It’ll be fine!” He lifted the shield in front of them, “Now stop stalling and press it!”

Dorothy did as he said and clamped her thumb down on the button and… nothing happened. She stared at the desk in front of them and then back at the remote, not saying a word.

Ray’s chin jutted forwards as he mirrored his sisters and his eyebrows furrowed, utterly confused albeit disappointed. He lowered the shield slightly turned towards Dorothy, “It was supposed to-“

The remote let out a screech and it fell to the floor, sparking as smoke seeped from it’s seams and crevices. “Ray..”

Dorothy let out a Yelp as the desk rocked and shook. A compartment flew open and a large box lifted up from inside and dropped onto the top of the desk, accompanied by a hiss and a loud thump.

Everything settled for a moment and the siblings thought the chaos was over. That is until Dorothy began to move around the desk and the box let out a whirl. It shook violently and began expanding in the matter of a second.

“Raymond!” Dorothy backed up against her younger brother, pushed them as far back against the wall as she could.

It got bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and bigger.. Until-

Pop!

The box exploded into nothing and green goo shot everywhere. It covered Dorothy and sprayed Ray’s left half. The two looked like they had crawled out of a giants nose.

Ray gently patted his sister’s shoulder, who hadn’t made a single peep. He couldn’t tell if she was in shock or steaming and was boiling in it. He let out a nervous laugh, “Heh, that wasn’t supposed to happen.”

“…RAYMOND!”
