The room for resurrection gets smaller and smaller; the space between you and the end grows close. When it happens, it’s bare feet and the cold. The way life wains thin and gaunt. When blackbirds fly above you, you think they are flecks of a fire - you wonder if you’ll be burned. The ground is smoother than any bed you’ve had in your entire life because you can watch the earth move from the roots. You watch love happen a thousand times and you remember that possibility is not a promise. I wondered if I had died before, because the burial felt awfully familiar.
