POEM STARTER
Write a poem exploring the concept of home - both as a physical place and an emotional state.
Me, My Home and I
I pull hard on my suitcase,
filled with all my belongings.
It seems that I carry myself with grace,
that I am ready for all the new beginnings.
Then I notice my sleeve is too short,
and the darkened bruise on my knee.
Goodbye to my home, my room, my fort!
All my memories and dreams leave with me.
One hand heavy with the desire to be free,
and the other craves to grab onto my safety.
I ignore the craving, I ignore the pleas,
for I know something awaits me in the sea.
I lazed away so many days,
so many days put to waste.
Wish I’d been the better person
I always dreamt to be.
But now my curtains and door will remain shut,
and I will never ghost this part of town again.
