Organ

I stare at the mirror and twirl around, my elegant white dress flowing behind me. Today was the day. I had turned 18 and therefore, eligible to give my organs. I know, it sounds vulgar and harsh...it is. But there is nothing I could do about it. Once we turned 18, females’ bodies didn’t belong to them, they belonged to the master of our village, the reverend. In the magical county where we live, there are 15 villages, each with a respective reverend. Each of these nasty men want something different, something to satisfy their hunger. Sometimes, the ladies of the villages get lucky and their reverend wants something simple like a necklace belonging to them. Others...not so lucky. I know that Village 8 has a rule of the first born child being handed to the reverend. Most of these masters were sick in the head, that’s just the way it worked. No one knew any better.

Our reverend on the other hand, he wanted our organs. No one knew what he actually did with them, but people had noticed that after the reverend got handed the organs, he went into a room and when he came out, blood covered his mouth and red droplets speckled his garments. Sicko

The operation to remove one of my kidney’s had already taken place and today, I needed to gift it to the reverend. The plan was that when I got to his castle, I would be handed a small glass tube and then walk up and hand it to the reverend. I was not to say a word. After giving it, walk back and out the door. I feel my fingers trembling as I dash down the stairs and into the car, where my mum waits for me. She praises my beauty and tells me not to be nervous, that everybody does this. We drove passed tall trees that tower over us and beautiful clouds that form mysterious shapes. Finally, we arrive.

My breathing comes out short and unsteady as my mother drops me at the entrance and parks off to the side. She wasn’t allowed in. Four guards stand next to the entrance and one hands me the glass tube. It feels cold against my sweaty fingers and all too soon, the door opens.

I trail my eyes up the long walk and see the revered sitting on a throne. The room is vast yet so empty. The floor isn’t covered with carpet, but instead tile. I feel as if I can feel coldness of it pressing through my shoes. I slowly start the walk up to the reverend and see him lean forward in interest. I lean back in disgust as I see him subtly lick his lips. Why the heck was he eating my kidney!? Suddenly, I trip over my foot and fall to the ground. I see the reverend stand up and yell curses at me as the kidney falls along with me.
