Lonely
“Do you think the sun gets lonely up there?”
His eyes sparkled as he gazed at the sky.
I didn’t turn to look.
“You’re going to go blind,” I responded without thinking too much.
I could hear him sigh and his head slowly fell back towards the ground.
“What about the moon?” He asked that night, his eyes bathed in its light.
“You’re going to trip if you keep looking up.”
Again, he sighed and his head fell back to the ground.
“What about you…?” He asked, his voice becoming light.
“I’m fine, I told you.”
He didn’t sigh that time.
And he didn’t sigh the next time or the next.
Because I forgot to ask him,
“I wonder, are you lonely up there?”
