Gods In The Sky

I stared out at the sky, it was clear as usual and then…it began to rain. I watched as the people within the town came out of their homes, their shops, the school just to see it. All so fascinated by it and I was too. I walked over to the door of my shop, prepared to leave but my father grasped my shoulder, holding me back. I was confused and didn’t have time to speak before following his gaze.

I looked back out the window and noticed the clear rain coating and splashing the faces of many became red.

The joy and excitement drained from their faces. The grey clouds turning burgundy but not only were they changing colors, they began to move away, leaving an entire area blank.

I took a step back, not knowing what was happening but all I saw was the panic on people’s face, their screams as the gods came down with **_Cerberus_**, **_Chimeras_**, **_Scylla_**, and **_Harpies_**.

My father guided me slowly to the back as the people’s screams intensified.

Blood splattering on the outside window of the store, bodies and heads flying around, I nearly let out a scream when a head hit the store’s window. My father wrapped his hand my mouth tightly. "Don’t scream. Don’t even move." He whispered, his hand still over my mouth as he backed me behind the counter. The villagers began to scratch and bang at the door, begging for us to let them in, the crying of babies and children could be heard.

My heart pounded in my chest, tears falling rapidly down my face then I felt something soft pressing against my ears. I looked up at my father who just stared back at outside, holding onto me as he pressed the headphones tightly against my ears to shield me away from the chaos that pursued outside. What I thought had lasted for hours, only lasted for minutes and _the screaming finally stopped_.

My dad stood up, he held his hand back for me to stay put and he went to the door. When he finally opened it, he didn’t speak. Just stared up at the sky. Defiantly, I followed him, confused and curious on what he was looking at. I stared up and saw the gods going back up to the sky to Mount Olympus.

**_Leaving us in despair and alone._**
