POEM STARTER
Write a poem from the perspective of an elderly person about the topic of their inner child.
To My Younger Me
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that you were left wanting,
Love, support, concern.
I’m sorry that you weren’t given enough,
Thought, compassion, understanding.
I’m sorry that you went without,
Confidence, security, stability.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that you struggled,
To love, be loved, to trust.
I’m sorry that you believed,
You were unworthy, unloveable, unnoticeable.
I’m sorry that you are obliged,
To question motives, sincerity, other’s thoughts.
I’m sorry.
Your strength can from pain.
Your insecurities came from other’s shortcomings.
Your beliefs came from the mistakes of others.
I’m sorry.
But I’m also proud,
You did it.
You didn’t give up.
You created the life you always wanted.
