Because I shouldn’t be prey

In a place that’s supposed to be safe

Because she shouldn’t be afraid

While walking home everyday

Because the color of his skin

Shouldn’t define who he is

Because her religion

Shouldn’t cause her bullying

Because mothers shouldn’t be afraid

to lose their kids to an early grave

Because her body weight

Shouldn’t be the dinner conversation

Because his identity

Shouldn’t keep him caged


Say her name

Because she shouldn’t be forced to give birth


Say his name

Because he’s living with addiction

And you do not want to admit it

Because her blood is something that is disgusting


Say his name

Because you ignore the abuse

Like the children in foster care


Say her name

Because mental illness

Shouldn’t be a secret


Say his name

Because having therapy

Shouldn’t make him ashamed


Say her name

Because you refuse to dearm

While she is getting shot

Because one day we will die of climate change


Say her name

Because her books and toys, dresses and shirts

Shouldn’t be restricted


Say his name

Because his healthcare shouldn’t be restricted

If his body doesn’t fit how he’s feeling


Say her name

Because her native language

Is somehow a reason to call her a terrorist?


Say our name

Because if our leaders are incompetent

And we take charge for this

we are called incompetent

Because children is all you call us.
