My Truth.
Say my name
Because I shouldn’t be prey
In a place that’s supposed to be safe
Say her name
Because she shouldn’t be afraid
While walking home everyday
Say his name
Because the color of his skin
Shouldn’t define who he is
Say her name
Because her religion
Shouldn’t cause her bullying
Say his name
Because mothers shouldn’t be afraid
to lose their kids to an early grave
Say her name
Because her body weight
Shouldn’t be the dinner conversation
Say his name
Because his identity
Shouldn’t keep him caged
Say her name
Because she shouldn’t be forced to give birth
Say his name
Because he’s living with addiction
And you do not want to admit it
Say her name
Because her blood is something that is disgusting
Say his name
Because you ignore the abuse
Like the children in foster care
Say her name
Because mental illness
Shouldn’t be a secret
Say his name
Because having therapy
Shouldn’t make him ashamed
Say her name
Because you refuse to dearm
While she is getting shot
Say his name
Because one day we will die of climate change
Say her name
Because her books and toys, dresses and shirts
Shouldn’t be restricted
Say his name
Because his healthcare shouldn’t be restricted
If his body doesn’t fit how he’s feeling
Say her name
Because her native language
Is somehow a reason to call her a terrorist?
Say our name
Because if our leaders are incompetent
And we take charge for this
we are called incompetent
Because children is all you call us.
