The Missing Piece

A flashback darted through my memory,

So quick and so sudden,

like lightening,

Leaving a burning imprint on my mind,

Smoking and black,

Telling myself its just a fleeting memory,

Of a dream perhaps,

Its nothing, just forget it,

The memory creeps back in more and more,

Suddenly I feel the fear that was instilled in me,

I now know this wasn't a dream,

A memory, so dark and furious,

It plays in my head like a drum,

Pounding to the beat of my screams and cries,

I now remember,

Buried deep inside in order to survive,

But I couldn't block it out forever,

The piece of my life I had been missing for years,

To forget was to forgive, and I know now that I will never forget.
