Tarot (Story)

It was a dark, gloomy night. Dimitri had just got off work, and after a long tiring day of being yelled at and called an “idiot” for forgetting a few medium fries and putting a 6pc nugget inside of a customers bag instead of the 10pc he asked for, she was finally able to relax She scoffed and said “God I wish my life was different.” She had always thought in the back of her mind that she was dealt a bad hands of cards in life and thought it was unfair because people were born into wealth and never had to deal with the hardships she had to. “Cards.” she thought. There was a tarot lady a couple of blocks from her house, and she thought in the morning she could go give her a visit. It began pouring down raining as she got closer to her apartment. She ran as fast as she could and slammed the door behind her once she got inside. She took her work clothes off and got into the bathtub filled with bubbles and a purple bath bomb. She laid her head back gently in the tub and took a deep breath. She hopped out of the tub, brushed her teeth, and put her PJs on. As she buried herself into her blanket she grabbed her laptop to do some research about tarot cards. “Local woman murdered by boyfriend.” She thought “what the hell does this have to do with tarot cards?” She clicked the link and as she read she heard a snap outside her window. She lifted the blinds slowly and flinched when a tree branch hit her window. She took a sigh of relief and jumped back into the article. “Local woman murdered in viscous attack by boyfriend days after visiting tarot card reader. Her family alleged that the woman who performed the reading cursed her with bad luck for eternity. They are not clear on whether it was intentional or not.” Dimitri burst into laughter waking up her cat Salem who laid inches away from her in bed. “That’s insane, who comes up with these stories.” As she scrolled she continued to chuckle……Until she saw it. “Main Street Divine Psychic” Her smile slowly dropped and she became frantic. She laid down silently and fell asleep. 7:45 AM. It was way earlier than what time she usually wakes up at. She hopped out of bed and brushed her teeth. She usually drank her coffee before she brushed her teeth but she wanted to do something different today so she grabbed her Starbucks Caramel Macchiato and poured it into a cup quickly. She hopped in the shower and ran out of the house. She began walking to the tarot card reader, despite what she saw last night. She wasn’t scared of anything. Or so she thought. She got there in no time because she had walked so fast because her anxiety was so high. She swung the door open and there was the chime of a bell. “Hello Darling” said a short German woman with a thick accent. She had long thick black hair but it was wrapped in a black scarf where you weren’t able to see the top of her head. “Beautiful my Darling” she says to Dimitri as she strokes her curly dark brown hair. “Thank you ma’am.” The woman nods her head politely and smiles. “Follow me,” the woman says. “You here for reading, yes?” “Yes ma’am, I am.” Dimitri nervously chuckles. “Sit.” The woman says. Dimitri sits in front of a dirty brown table with a green scarf over top. There were different colored cards with different imagery on them. A sun, a moon, a devil, a queen. Dimitri prayed to god that she got nothing to do with the Devil. There was another older woman who grabbed Dimitris hand once she placed them over top the table. “Quiet please,” she mutters. Dimitri doesn’t say anything. The woman dropped her hand gently and began shuffling the cards. Dimitri thought that she was supposed to ask questions and then be read. But before she knew it the woman grabbed a card with the devil on it.

“What does this mean?” Dimitri asks. The woman says nothing and gets up from the table. Dimitri gets up after a few minutes of contemplating what just happened, and after that she got up and walked home. She didn’t know what would happen next so she began panicking.
