Jewel
Her long black hair shimmers in the light
Four furry feet, each with sock of white
She doesn’t seem to mind that her paws are often stained green
For that means she’s been outside with her ball playing
Intense brown eyes, always full of emotion
Sending me messages, beyond her love and devotion
Going to work, she has an important role
Tail wagging and smiling, she welcomes the people
Some no longer are afraid of her kind
Some sit to pet her, it eases their mind
She cleans the floor of daily lunch crumbs
Then rolls onto her back to welcome tummy rubs
Her bedtime cuddles and hot stinky breath
Ending our day this way is the best
Unwanted and abandoned, how her life began
Without her beside me, don’t ask me to imagine
She is my Jewel, a true gem of a friend
She may drink from the toilet, but she thinks she’s a human
If you tell her otherwise, she’ll give you a nasty look
And trust me when I say, she’s got quite the right hook
