Jena and Kevin grew up together in the same household. Kevin's dad divorced his mom and married Jenas´s mom, who was a widow, but Jena didn’t want her last name to be changed and her mom respected her decision. Jena and Kevin grew up detesting one another. Kevin was 8 and Jena was 7, Kevin felt he had authority over Jena because he was older. They could never come to agree on anything.

As the years went by Jena and Kevin got older and attended the same University Jena became one of the best in her class in Yamton University. Kevin's love for sports strived and wanted to become the captain of the football team. Jena and Kevin acted as if they were strangers, whenever they ran into each other at the University, but back at home, they had to socialize to make their parents happy.

The fall festival was approaching and the students who didn’t have a date for the festival were teased and ridiculed. Jena loved to read romance novels and dreamed of finding her true love just like in the books, but all the boys who approached her were so superficial and immature that she didn't care about going to the festival without a date. Jena's plan was to hang out with her best friend Marisa at the festival. For Kevin, the festival was his chance to ask his crush Lisa to go with him.

One day before the festival Kevin approaches Lisa to ask her out. ¨Would you like to go to the festival with me tomorrow¨ asked Kevin with a hopeful voice. Lisa agreed with a big smile on her face. Marisa called Jena and told her she would not be able to go with her because she had a family emergency.

The next day Jena went to the festival all by herself .¨It's my duty to go and supervise the festival, as class president to ensure everything goes well, ¨Jena mutte in dissatisfaction. While Jena walked around she came across Bethany and her date Jack. Bethany's ego inflated as she saw Jena all by herself. “Did your date run away Jena ?” Bethany asked in a snobbish fashion. Jena didn’t want Bethany to feel delighted that she was all by herself. “Actually my date is in the bathroom and he will be returning shortly” replied Jena with a smirk on her face. Jena grew nervous and thought about how she was going to make a date appear out of nowhere.

Jena sees Kevin walking by and she quickly goes to him. Jena asks Kevin if he can pretend to be her date. “What, why would I help you, Jena?”, “you just have to say that you're my date in front of Bethany and then you can leave”. Kevin takes a moment to think about it. “I will help you with your exams” added Jena. Kevin wasn't doing so well in his math class and it was a barrier for him in order to complete his goal of becoming a captain, so he accepted the deal. Because Kevin and Jena never interacted nobody knew their parents were together and Jena did have the same last name as Kevin. Jena and Kevin walked back to Bethany and her date. “Hello, nice to meet you, I am Jena's date,” Kevin said awkwardly while holding Jena by the arm. “Oh, you Keven from the football team” Bethany replied sarcastically as she glanced back at her boyfriend who was the captain of the football team. After a short chat B, Bethenny finally left Kevin and Jena. When Bethany was around the corner she saw Lisa who was looking for somebody. “Have you guys seen Keven, we were supposed to meet here ” Lisa asked Bethany. Bethany being the mean person she was took this opportunity to show Lisa that Kevin was with Jena. “Oh, honey is Keven Madden your date ?” Jena asked. “Ye, we were supposed to meet here…” Lisa responded sweetly. “I feel so sorry for you sweetie,“ Bethany tells Lisa as she walks her to the corner and points to Jena and Kevin. “Looks like Kevin found a new date”, whispers Bethany in Lisa's ear and leaves.

Keven sees Lisa from afar and waves at her, but Lisa turns back and ignores him. Then Kevin runs after her. He calls Lisa, but she doesn't stop until Keven grabs her by the hand. Lisa turns around and slap Kevin. “Why did you ask me to the festival when you already have a date?” Lisa questioned Kevin weeping and infuriated. “I don't have a date, what are you talking about“ replied Kevin with a confused expression on his face. As Jena caught up to them, Lisa pointed at her “That's your new date”, “No, this is all a misunderstanding, she's not my date..” Lisa cuts Kevin off slaps him again and leaves.

Jena feels accountable for what happened to Kevin, so she rushes toward Lisa. “Lisa we need to talk,” speaks up Jena in an agitated voice. But Lisa doesn't t want to talk to Jena. “Lisa please stop” Jenas cries out in desperation. Lisa stops and turns toward Jena. As Jena jogs toward Lisa, she notices all the mascara running down her face and feels really bad. Jena tries to clear up the misunderstanding, but Lisa isn't convinced. Lisa turns around about to leave. “ Kevin and I are family, we are not dating”. Lisa pauses and turns around once more. “What do you mean your family?” Lisa asked . Jena never told anybody that her mom and Kevin’s dad were together. Jena tells her the whole story of how her dad died and her mom got together with Kevin’s dad.

Kevin finds Jena and Lisa sitting at a bench talking. Lisa is now convinced that what Jena said is true. Lisa forgives Kevin and Jena. The next day Kevin takes Lisa to meet his dada and stepmom. A few years later Lisa marries Kevin, while Jena also finds her soulmate.
