Very creative take on the prompt, and beautiful execution. Heartbreaking, but it’s relatable and raw, I loved how you showed emotion rather than telling, such as through the use of repetition, “I waited I waited I waited”. I loved how you told the story through, again, showing us and not outright telling us, “empty arms with which to cradle”, and again the repetition of the word “empty” to describe the “blanket in shaking hands”, and a “soul with empty plans”, really conveyed the feeling of grief and emptiness that comes with loosing a child. The pacing matched the way a tired, grieving mother in a hospital bed might be thinking- no long coherent thoughts but rather bouts of emotion coming and going through the experience, just beautifully crafted. My one suggestion would just be to take time to edit and double check everything, wasn’t sure if “though when i when it dawned” was a typo, it seems like it was maybe supposed to just be “
though when it dawned a new, sweet day”. Also great foreshadowing- the storks eyes being “as black as worlds unknown” despite it bringing you “mortal joy” and starting with the woman in “throbbing pain” lll
A very clever and well written speech, well done 👍
What a clever way of approaching this theme, eerie and touching piece well done.
