Chameleon of Many Colors
You asked my favorite color
To learn what shade to be
Thinking you could figure out
How to blend in with me
You took on shapes and patterns
To distort yourself to match
Studying your subject
And developing a mask
Forcing a connection
Knowing what you stood to gain
Treating me like a level
In your manipulative game
You made it so appealing
To believe it could be real
To have someone understand me
If only through my color wheel
A chameleon illusionist
Crafting a life on lies
You fed on vulnerability
While wearing a disguise
And you’re still out there hiding
In places you don’t belong
Blending in with faces
Singing your siren song
Your true colors known to no one
Least of all to you
The chance to bury your fragile heart
While putting on a ruse
But I can’t feel sorry for you
For it’s me who had to learn:
Transparency is everything
And your colors quickly turn
